Asheville’s Fun Depot, Asheville, N.C. and Creative Works, Inc.November 2, 2013 No Comments
Creative Works, Inc., is a full-service theme creator, prop builder and attractions provider to theme parks, museums, family entertainment centers, restaurants, tourist attractions and other venues. For over 15 years, they have brought ideas to life with a talented team of designers, sculptors, craftsmen, and artisans, known throughout the industry as the “Theme Team,” and are proud to have delivered the WOW Effect to a wide variety of destinations across the globe.
Being in business for so long, they have developed some great trusting relationships with other companies that are in the entertainment industry. Alan Kumpf has spent the majority of his career in the service industry. After working in the restaurant business for 18 years in both family-owned establishments and chain restaurants, he saw a potential transition to the entertainment industry. Since most FEC’s have food service and are geared toward families, there was an overlap to provide a perfect segue. This new transition led him to his current position as General Manager of Asheville’s Fun Depot in Asheville, N.C.
Kumpf has spent the last eight years running the day-to-day operations of Asheville’s Fun Depot. With 72,000 square feet of both indoor and outdoor space and attractions, this is no easy feat. Among the attractions offered at the facility are mini bowling, bumper cars, mini golf, indoor go-karts, outdoor go-karts, laser tag, an arcade, soft play and a diner. The facility also has a Lazer Frenzy laser maze and an AtomicRUSH attraction from Creative Works.
Lazer Frenzy is an arcade-style attraction that combines the exhilarating, high-tech excitement of interactive lasers with LED technology. Players find themselves inside a 200-square-foot glowing black light environment with brightly colored laser beams creating a web of lasers. AtomicRUSH infuses state-of-the-art touch technology with brilliant multi-colored LED lighting circuitry as a part of the next generation arcade. Players choose a color and the objective is to quickly tap the LED panels as their colors light up. Both of these attractions work well in Kumpf’s arcade space since they take swipe cards as credit payment, just like any typical arcade game.
When asked why Asheville’s Fun Depot has been so successful, he focused on the family environment. “I attribute our success to being a wholesome place for families to go and have fun.” Regardless of the level of success, many operators look at their business and see areas of improvement. Kumpf and his team saw such an opportunity, and spent six months renovating the entire facility. With his eye on the future, Kumpf is optimistic about where the entertainment industry will be several years from now. “I think the trend will be for families of all sizes to covet the time they can spend together. I think people will be constantly searching for a forum where they can get time together.”
Similarly, Creative Works, Inc., believes in the importance of building impact on the community and supporting customers in achieving their dreams. With over 500 attractions designed, built, and customized, they have practically seen it all. And through sponsoring conferences, speaking at events, and providing in-house seminars they give back with their time, talents, and treasures to the community around them. –
