Staying in Tune with the Customer

November 1, 2013 No Comments

If you are looking for operational ideas and advice from your colleagues in the amusement business that will help you stay on the same page as your customers, you will find it in Tourist Attractions & Parks.  Our circulation reach and the scope of our coverage in many of the business’ segments, including the family entertainment industry, are unmatched.
Each issue, in addition to recurring sections, we offer special features that offer perspectives on industry trends and services. As the amusement business is shaped by creative thinking, in this IAAPA Attractions Expo edition we offer a special section on the always-evolving technology that fuels innovations in rides and other attraction elements. From a human figure that has a remarkable 78 functions to the controller device that runs Disney’s Electrical Parade, technology makes its mark on the guest experience in ways both small and significant.  The “Technology Today Special Feature Section” offers a look at affordable animation, interactive dark rides, animatronics and more. Additionally, in The Large Park Report, Contributor Chad Emerson examines the perils of technology-first ride design. And in the Haunted Attractions section, our writer discusses how the advent of affordable high definition video technology is paving the way for the addition of virtual cast members at more haunts.
A big part of the IAAPA Attractions Expo experience is getting up close to new products and learning about the latest services. Coin-op operators and location owners and managers are always on the lookout for new games, and many companies debut these machines at the trade show. In our Street Beat section, we look at how family entertainment centers use not only novel games, but the right placement, mix and packaging of the diversions to attract business. Also in the section, operators discuss which redemption games are currently the most popular.
Also in the issue is a special expanded Family Entertainment Center Report that covers bowling, miniature golf, go-karts, inflatables, roller skating, FEC operational tips, bumper cars and laser tag. We also report on food service at zoos, aquariums and Florida attractions and tell the story of the Shake Shoppe Arcade in Seaside Heights, N.J.
Tourist Attractions & Parks is entering its 42nd year, and is the most trusted and oldest trade publication in the industry. There is much discussion regarding the actual circulation reach of industry trade magazines. This issue contains our annual postal statement, and we are proud that we mail over 27,000 copies. This figure is a contrast to IAAPA’s membership magazine Fun World, which although a fine publication, only mailed approximately 5,400 copies as of September.
We hope you enjoy the issue. To visit TAP advertisers from this issue at the IAAPA Attractions Expo, please turn to page 148 for a booth number listing. For questions or comments about the magazine or regarding advertising opportunities, please contact me at editortapmag@kanec.com or by calling 610-645-6940 ext. 0. You can also stop by IAAPA Booth 3002 to say “Hello.”
