The FEC Issue

May 20, 2013 No Comments

From serving the most delicious pizza and getting the biggest bounce from inflatables to adding attractions such as candlepin bowling and laser tag and minimizing injury risk, the family entertainment center industry is always changing and adjusting to the times. Some FEC practices and attractions may fade away, but there will always be new trends on the horizon to offer affordable family fun. This issue, which is widely distributed at the bowling industry trade event, we offer tips on how to make your family entertainment center more profitable. We also present the 2013 Entertainment Center and Location-Based Entertainment Supplier’s Guide, a listing of top-quality vendors that location owners and managers can turn to all year.
Well-executed hiring and training are practices that lay the foundation for success for any type of business, and Disney’s staff development methods are well documented to be among the best in the industry. In The Large Park Report, regular Contributor Chad Emerson sheds light on how Disney handles everyday staffing and training concerns.
Each issue, TAP covers the food service picture at all types of leisure entertainment facilities. At zoos and botanical gardens, guests expect menu items to please all age groups, and you can read about how this goal is accomplished in the story “Food for the Ages – Strategies from Zoos and Botanical Gardens to Satisfy All Guests.”
Few elements are more important to haunted houses than lighting, and in the Haunted Attractions section we offer an article that offers tips to make the most of lighting as well as trends in the industry. Lighting is also a consideration for bowling centers, where brightness and contrast contribute to creating a comfortable, fun-to-play atmosphere. In addition to lighting, the right mix of arcade games can also grow a bowling center’s profitability. In the Street Beat section, we offer an article that includes advice on everything from layout to game selection for bowling center arcades.
Also in the issue, we present stories on the top-earning arcade redemption games and how to succeed with splash parks and dry play areas at waterparks. I hope you enjoy the issue. Please email me with your questions, comments and suggestions.
