Glo’ Zone Station: An Entrepreneurial Spirit Fuels a New FEC in New Zealand

The road from Henderson to Albany is only 15 miles, but for Stephen and Darya, this journey was so much more than that. This New Zealand couple already owned and operated a mini-golf facility in Henderson (just west of Auckland), and they were researching the possibility of opening a new entertainment center. Their original site, called Transylvania, was doing very well as a stand-alone indoor golf course – themed with the dark and mysterious lore and stories behind this famous city in Romania. But Stephen and Darya’s entrepreneurial spirit was driving the idea of opening an all-in-one multi-attraction FEC.
They began researching buildings and spaces in their local region of New Zealand. They wanted to find a place that offered substantial parking, good visibility from the street, and at least 10,000 square feet. They eventually found a building they thought would be suitable, just north of Auckland in a place called Albany. It provided plenty of windows, was visible from the street, and was located just two miles from the Hauraki Gulf. Although they had experience within the entertainment industry, they needed the helping hand of experts to continue their dream of opening this new site. Upon exploring the internet, they discovered several attraction companies across the globe, including Creative Works of the USA.
Stephen and Darya needed a company with a vast background and a keen sense of design. After comparing everyone “apples to apples,” Creative Works provided more value and experience for the project. The staff members of Creative Works, also known as the “Theme Team,” put together a proposal to develop their new fun center design and take care of everything from start to finish.
This plan included a laser tag arena, the award-winning Lazer Frenzy laser maze, a 12-hole miniature golf course, and the brand new Mirror Amaze attraction. Arcade games and a party area were also included in the layout to bring everything together and provide an all-in-one experience for guests. The Theme Team began coordinating the architecture of the space to ensure every light fixture, smoke alarm, air duct, receptacle and door were properly placed for a safe and operationally efficient business. Creative Works even assisted with the branding and marketing by providing tried-and-true ideas. With the assistance and inspiration from Creative Works, Stephen and Darya selected Glo’Zone Station as the name of their new center. The facility was themed to be a “space station,” and each attraction had a custom 12-foot portal archway that transported guests to a different realm, from the depths of the ocean to the greenery of unknown forests.
Creative Works fabricated all of the pieces and props for this state-of-the-art facility in their 33,000-square-foot Theme Factory in Indiana before shipping all of the goods to New Zealand. When the installation team arrived in New Zealand, it only took them two weeks to complete the job.
