A Message from ILTA Membership ServicesApril 1, 2011 No Comments
Spring is here and change is in the air! Speaking with our members, laser tag facilities are still cranking along making profits and business is growing in most parts of the country. With a plethora of conventions and seminars these past few months, many operators are trying out all kinds of innovations they’ve been taught by experts in the family entertainment industry.
Change isn’t exclusive to just laser tag facilities though. In case you haven’t heard, the ILTA’s Executive Director, Shane Zimmerman, has stepped down from his position here. For the past eight years, Shane has served as our executive director and before that, assistant executive for five years. Even before that, for two years, he was our order processing manager.
Shane is a great colleague, mentor and friend. Our Board of Directors and I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of him in the laser tag industry.
In the meantime, until we appoint our next executive director, I just want to reassure our members that everything here at the ILTA is business as usual. Our staff is still committed to our members, their projects and the industry research that has defined our association for the past 16-plus years.
The third annual Laser Tag Convention is being held in Orlando, Fla. May 1-5, 2011. Registration is well under way and the trade show floor is sold out. Last year we oversold our allotted spaces by five booths.
We’ve been getting great responses to our list of seminars and speakers. Our only real criticisim last year was that our seminars didn’t go long enough. The wealth of information provided at the show is well worth the admission price to attend.
For ILTA members, we also have our annual member’s dinner to look forward to. It will be great to catch up with the operators who attend every year, as well as get to know our new members. It’s always fun to hear the innovations and twists to business that developers bring to their projects.
Lastly, don’t forget to enter your facility into the 2011 Golden Phaser Awards. I know many of you have been revamping your Web sites, flyers, TV/cable commercials, radio spots and briefing videos. We also want to know if your facility has someone you feel deserves to be the ILTA’s Operator of the Year.
So if you feel like your facility is the best of the best in any of these areas, let us know by visiting www.lasertagconvention.com and entering to win. Winners will be displayed on our Web sites, get a logo to display on the Web site for their winning category and will receive an honorary plaque to display at your facility. (Non-winning entries will automatically be entered in to next year’s awards as well.)
I look forward to getting to know you and your project or facility at this year’s convention. If you have any questions until then, feel free to visit www.lasertagconvention or www.lasertag.org for more information on the convention, our member’s dinner or the Golden Phaser Awards. Also, for a story outlining more reasons to attend the convention, visit www.tapmag.com.
